Leading Transformational Change
For Our Communities
Every Community Wants What’s Best for their Children.
Communities want their children to be healthy, active and happy. They want them to have fruits and veggies to eat, places to play, and an environment that makes making a “healthy” choice, the easy choice.
The trouble is, many communities don’t have the expertise or resources to identify and address the complex web of challenges that hold them back. That’s why the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation created High Five!, the state’s largest collaborative effort focused on reversing childhood obesity.
We work with communities (mayors, citizens and more) to bring transformational change to both children’s health and their communities.

Community Transformational Grants help communities make lasting change.
Each year, three communities are awarded Community Transformation Grants—up to $250,000 each—to initiate projects that improve the health of our children by increasing their physical activity and access to healthy, affordable foods.
Mayor’s School Walking Challenge helps mayors lead the way in creating a healthy community.
Mayor’s School Walking Challenge is a one-month competition for mayors to get walking to improve health and heighten awareness of healthier lifestyles. While the challenge is fun, its core mission is to give mayor’s first-hand experience that inspires them to bring health-building initiatives to their communities.
Steps for Schools gets state legislators walking — raising funds for local schools.
Steps for Schools challenges state legislators to walk as much as possible for one month during the legislative session. Outfitted with Fitbits, each legislator’s steps are counted, and those with the most steps earn cash to fund their schools’ walking programs or needed physical activity equipment.
An innovative learning collaborative for Idaho mayors and other community leaders. This invitation-only program walks city leaders through the latest research, funding opportunities and best practices around obesity prevention.
